SPECTATORS at Tiverton Rugby Club were able to see police officers being battered, bruised, and beaten in a completely legal way on November 11. Around 220 people braved the cold wet weather, to cheer on the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary as they faced a Tiverton team made up of youngsters, reserves, and first team players. Despite the police being a force on the pitch, they were unable to stop the home side winning by a comfortable margin of 38-7. The match was held to help raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse and was one of a number of events being held across the county in the build-up to Domestic Awareness Week which starts on November 23.
